Sometimes these birds are called “waterfowls” because in the wild they are usually found in places with water like ponds, streams and rivers. They have short necks and wings and webbed feet. The ducks are actually related to geese and swans, but are smaller. Ducks are rather hardy birds; they can survive in a wide variety of habitats, though they naturally need water.
