Darkwing Duck

The darkwing duck chicks can be viewed in pictures of duck breeds. These species are abundant in the Northern Hemisphere. They prefer shallow fresh or brackish water and avoid fast-moving water. They are very vocal, especially during the breeding season. They feed on seeds, roots, stems, leaves and flowers of aquatic vegetation, mollusks and aquatic insects. These birds migrate in small groups. Migrating large flocks can damage agricultural crops. Most birds of this species are tolerant of humans and can be approached closely. Humans exploit these birds extensively. They are hunted for sport and for subsistence. The darkwing duck chicks can be viewed in pictures of duck breeds.

chicks, pictures

All domesticated birds of this class are descended from Mallards; they are about 50-60 cm. in body lenght (20.5 -28 in.) Males have brighter coloring than females have. Females are plain and brown. They can survive on a variety of habitats but they should be close to the water. The male leaves the female when the incubation period begins. When the eggs are hatched, the young are led to the water. The birds mature quickly and may breed in less than 12 months of age; their average lifespan is one or two years. There are many mammalian and avian predators of these birds. The darkwing duck chicks can be viewed in pictures of duck breeds.
