American Black Duck
American black duck is the type of bird native to this country; photos are available on the internet.
Breeding these birds is different from breeding chicks. A box with a light bulb to warm the young may be used as a simple brooder. Heat is very important for the little ones. Despite the fact that these birds need less heat in comparison with chicks, they should be warmed up to 90 degrees during the first few weeks. After the birds are a few weeks old, the temperature may be gradually lowered. Bit by bit, they will get adjusted so that they may go without artificial heat. As for bedding, no slick materials should be used in a box.

American Black Duck -
bird, photos
These birds belong to the Anatidae family, which includes several subfamilies. These birds are mostly aquatic; they can live in both fresh and seawater. They are smaller than their close relatives the swans and geese. Some species are migratory, mainly those breeding in the Northern Hemisphere; others, mainly in the tropics, are resident; there are also nomadic species. These birds are characterized by a wide flat beak, perfectly adapted for dredging. They feed on aquatic plants, insects, worms, mollusks, small fish and amphibians.
