The golden health problem retriever is uncommon, they are generally healthy puppies and are not usually found in a rescue.
These dogs are large and strong; males are 22-24 inches at the withers and weigh 60-80 pounds, females are a little smaller and stand 20-22 inches and weigh 55-70 pounds. They were designed specially for waterfowl and small game retrieving.

The breed is relatively healthy, but has several hereditary diseases, which can be avoided by careful breeding. Like all large dogs, they are prone to hip dysplasia and should be checked in an early age. Another possible disorders are heart and eye diseases, allergies.
