Dog Obedience

If you have a dog that lacks behavioral coherence, then dog obedience is for you. It sounds terribly harsh, but dog obedience is necessary in order for your dog's happiness to be complete. Obedience training will teach your dog the basics of sitting, begging, and rolling over initially; more advanced techniques should enable them to walk on leashes outside, not attack strangers and other dogs, and not tear apart the house. Start dog obedience at a very early age. The familiar anecdote that says you can't teach an old dog a new lesson is not 100% true; nevertheless, start the dog at a young age.

Additionally, you don't want to have an unruly dog running around your home. If you have purchased your dog as a puppy, then it would be the best time to begin. Dog obedience is also great for teaching your dog not to destroy the furniture. Most dogs love to lie down on a nice soft couch or even the bed.

You can teach your dog not to do terrible things through dog obedience. The trick is to catch them in the act and then scold them; teach them by yelling the word, no, in a stern shouting voice. Anytime they jump on the couch or bed, repeat the chastisement and admonition, and they will learn not to do it. You don't have to hit the dog; however, a light tap on the nose will deter them. Some dog owners find that they don't have the time or the patience for practicing dog obedience. In these types of cases you can try hiring a trainer to teach your dog; if that doesn't work, then take them to a good old-fashioned obedience school. There are classes for dogs who need to be more disciplined; when dog parents cannot get the job done, these classes are perfect. Pretty soon you will have a well-mannered dog that will sit, roll over and not persist in begging at the kitchen table. Dog obedience pays off.
