Dog Health

If you have a dog, then dog health should be a top priority. Dogs can get sick just as people can. It can be costly to take your dog to the vet every time they get sick. So why not take the proper steps to make certain that they are healthy and happy. When you get a puppy, you will need to get their shots. These shots range from Rabies to vaccination shots. Your dogs need to be protected from illness and disease just as you protect yourself. Be wary when buying a puppy that does not have any paperwork; if the seller insists that the puppy has had their shots, then you want to have proof. You always want to keep the dog's health first and foremost.

Many dog parents are tempted to feed table scraps to their pets, and we all do it. However, good dog health is not in table scraps. Bones from chicken, steaks or spare ribs can all be choked on. These types of bones can splinter and cause your dog to choke. One other thing to avoid is chocolate; chocolate can be linked to death in dogs. If you want to give them a pizza crust or some pieces of chicken that is fine, but certainly stay away from bones and chocolate.

Another way you can help with dog health is by walking them regularly. Never overfeed them and not give them any room for exercise. Obesity in a dog can cause many problems such as heart problems, hip problems and general health problems. Make sure that your dog gets plenty of exercise. If there is a dog park near you, then try to go at least 3 times a week. Giving your dog a walk everyday can increase your dog's health.

Dog health extends to pet insurance as well; this insurance helps to cover the cost of shots and veterinarian visits. Look into it for your dog. Pet insurance is relatively affordable and well worth it, if God forbid, something happens to your dog. Millions of dog parents treat their pets like their own children so always remember to keep your pet on a leash at all times. Watch what you are feeding them and take them to the vet for scheduled check-ups. If possible, try brushing your dog's teeth. Dental hygiene is also important for complete dog health.
