It is not an easy matter to find a wirehair dachshund puppy at a rescue. A wirehair dachshund is relatively easy to find if you know a breeder who specializes in the wirehair dachshund.
There are three varieties of the breed: the short-haired, the wired-haired, and the long-haired. According to the coat length difference the dogs are different in size. Thus the standard size is about -18 inches (35-45cm.); the weight is 20 pounds (9kg.).

The smallest that is called miniature or the dwarf type is 14 inches (35cm.) high and weighs about 9 pounds (4kg.). The usual (normal) standard size is 14-18 inches (35-45cm.) high and the weight is 20 pounds (9kg.). The other type is called the rabbit that is 12 inches (30cm.) high and weighs 8 pounds (3.5kg.)
