These birds are characterized by the long neck and long bill that is also distinctive and easy to see. The coloring of these birds is white and the black wingtips are hidden when the bird is standing. The bird stands on long thin legs.

There is the type of the animals that is called the Common type and is the only species of cranes in Estonia. The Common type stretches its neck forward while flying unlike the Herons that are gray as well.
