Coton De Tulear Dogs

Coton de tulear dogs have an excess of white hair; a puppy photo shows a sweet, gruffy countenance. The breed is a member of the Bichon [pronounced "BEE-shawn"] family of hounds. These creatures are the descendents of an ancient European breed, the Barbet. Thier small and shorthaired descendent of the Barbet, the "Bichon Tenerife," was introduced to the Canary Islands by the Spanish. This breed is very popular nowadays and the breed called Tenerife gave rise to the modern, Mediterranean Maltese, the French Petit Lion Dog and Bichon Frise, the Italian Bolognese, the South American Havanais, and the Coton de Tulear.
