The horse breed was developed in the valley of the Clyde River, in Lanarkshire, Scotland in the early 18th century. The average height of the breed is 16.2 hands high. Some individuals may stand up to 17 hands high. This is a Rare Breed, and classified as “at risk” by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.
