These dogs are known for their dignified, independent, and assertive nature. A well-bred and well-socialized dog of this breed can be an excellent family dog. Though, some representatives of this breed are likely to be devoted to one person in the family.

These dogs are very cute; having a large head, deep set dark brown eyes, large black nose, small triangular ears, and a blue or black tongue. The dogs have straight hind legs. The tail of the dog is set high and carried close over the back. A chow picture is not commonly found in a rescue site as it is not usually turned in to rescues.
