The average litter size is 4 puppies, yet as many as 6 puppies may be born. Puppies are usually born with pink tongues that become blue-black when the puppies are 8 weeks old. If this does not happen, the puppy is not eligible for show and breeding as it lacks the essential breed feature. Most chow breeders will have a picture collection of their prize dogs and kennels.
