These animals are rather social and being alone in a cage can make them dull and unhappy. These rodents are herbivorous and their diet consists mostly of roots, bulbs, and mosses. In captivity they live up to 15 years. Chinchilla sales may take place directly on farms; a farm is not the usual place to buy them though.
