These rodents usually breed in winter. As a rule they produce two litters of one to six young. A female should be at least eight months old to be ready for breeding and should weigh 450 grams before they are bred.

Gestation period usually lasts for 111 days. It is recommended to have a “nursery cage” to keep there a pregnant female for two weeks or more before the event.
