These dogs are usually healthy and long-lived, the average life expectancy being 15-17 years. They are quite enduring and boisterous, but cannot tolerate cold and are prone to respiratory disorders. They have fragile bones and hence they are susceptible to fractures. They should be taught to stay calm in one’s arms, because in an attempt to wiggle out they may fall down and receive a deadly injury. Puppies and dogs with unclosed moleras run an increased risk of getting a fatal head injury. These animals are not recommended for families with small children.
