Chihuahua Dogs
Chihuahua dogs often get into rescues because of irresponsible breeders, as rescue officers state.
According to the official AKC standard, the dogs of this breed should not weigh above 6 pounds. The head of a purebred dog should be well rounded, with or without molera; the eyes and ears should be large and the expression of the face is saucy. The muzzle is moderately short and slightly pointed; cheeks and jaws are lean; the feet are small and dainty. These dogs come in two varieties: longcoats and smoothcoats. The coat color and pattern can be different, but solid colors are preferable.

These dogs measure 6-9 inches high at the withers and weigh 2-6 pounds. Some species are so small that they can stand on all paws in the palm of your hand. There is no so called ‘miniature type’ that some backyard breeders and street brokers claim to have for sale. These dogs are very fragile and delicate, and they should not be exposed to physical impact. They are prone to fractures and dislocations.
