Chihuahua
The chihuahua has many photos available, especially of puppies.
This is the only breed of dog truly indigenous to the Western Hemisphere. The ancestors of the dog came from the state of the same name in Mexico. This breed was well known among the Aztecs as well as the Toltecs. Archeologists have discovered skeletons of similar dogs in human graves, as these dogs were believed to be able to lead a human soul into the underworld. Although it is native to Mexico, it is also believed to have been introduced by the Chinese.

It is the smallest breed of dog in the world and the only "natural" toy breed. That is, these dogs are naturally small and aren't a result of "breeding-down" larger breeds, as it was with other toy breeds. The dogs can weigh up to 9 pounds or more. Smaller dogs are more preferable. This is a cute and vivacious companion with an alert temperament and saucy expression. Despite their miniature size, these animals think just as big of themselves as they are small. They are very brave and seem to be ready to battle a lion.
