Be careful for cars, as it has a strong affinity for the chase, owing to its descent from hunting dogs. Also called King Charles Spaniel.

Its name is derived from King Charles II who loved toy spaniels so much that they were in his presence almost all the time, supposedly preferring them to his courtiers. They were also favorites to Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth I, , Charles I, and his son, James II.
