These hounds have coarse and wiry coats that are weather resistant and difficult to trim. The coat is about 2 inches long and has a thick undercoat. The coat is both water resistant and water repellent; it also protects from brambles. This breed has a bearded forehead and whiskers that protect the hounds face.
