Cat Behavior

Have you ever wondered about cat behaviors? It really is very interesting. You may notice the most common behavior is purring. A cat, when they are content will start purring and they sound like a soft hum of a car motor. This behavior is very normal for most cats. Cats will purr when they are falling asleep on your lap or they will purr when you pet their "spot". Purring is a sign of love and whenever you hear your cat purring, all is right with their world.

A cat behavior, which you will also notice, is hissing. Hissing is a sign that your cat is angry. If you have ever seen a cat with their backs arched in the air and a strong hissing and a growling sound coming from the cat. Back off, cats hate to be cornered even by their owners. They automatically go on the defensive mode because it is part of their instinctive behavior.

When you see a cat rubbing their face on furniture, it is a sign of them marking their territory. Spraying is also a sign of marking their territory. You see this a lot in homes with multiple cats. The best way to stop the spraying is to have your cat spayed or neutered. But if that seems extreme, you can look in pet stores, and they carry a products that repels cats away from spaces where they normally would spray. If you see your cat indulging in this cat behavior, don't panic it is normal.

If you ever see a cat behavior displayed by your cat that you have never seen before, don't panic. You can find plenty of information about cat behavior online or in your local library. Also, feel free to ask your vet. Some things cats do may be perfectly normal and others may be warning signs of sickness. That is why it is necessary to pay attention to the cat behavior. It could be nothing or it could be something more.

Cat behavior is the domain of pet psychologists too. In fact, cats can be diagnosed with clinical depression. Biological factors like poor nutrition and stressors like abuse and poor treatment can result in a potentially sad feline. Also, fleas and other illnesses can cause a sad mood. There are many avenues of research when it comes to learning about your cat behavior.
