The name of the breed itself came from the two Welsh words the first part of which (cor-) means “dwarf” and the second one (-gi) means “dog”. That’s why the name of the breed is translated from Welsh as “ little dog”.

There are several theories concerning the history and the origin of the breed. Some seventy years ago the Cardigan breed and the other one – The Welsh Corgi were thought to be two separate breeds. These both two breeds descended from Swedish Vallhunds that were brought to Wales by the Vikings in the 800’s. The cardigan welsh corgi can be optained from many reputable kennels as a puppy.
