These strong and massive dogs are used mostly as pets. The American variety of the breed is more agile than other breed varieties. It’s still used for hunting and personal protection. In spite of their weird appearance, a typical personality of the breed is very friendly and affectionate.

Also called English Bulldog.
These dogs are very friendly, people-oriented and affectionate, and they have nothing in common with their ferocious fathers in terms of temperament. However, many people consider them to be prone to violence, probably because of their a little threatening countenance. Modern replicas of those butcher dogs feature strong body and wrinkly muzzle. There are three major offsprings of that historic Mastiff-type dog: English, French and American. French dogs are compact, with bat-like appearance; English are larger in size, and American dogs are more like their fathers.
