This breed suffers much from its exaggerated appearance. Short windpipes cause breathing problems, especially in hot weather. Extreme temperatures are dangerous for these dogs; they should only be kept indoors. Hip dysplasia, poor eyesight and skin infections occur in some bloodlines of this breed. Broad heads of the puppies make it almost impossible to deliver in a natural way. Most females deliver by cesarean section and make poor mothers.
