This breed has a long history and is a descendant of the ancient Mastiffs that were originated in Asia and were brought to Europe by Normans. The dogs of this breed were bred mainly to hunt lions and bears and bait bulls. These are strong and courageous animals that are good runners, jumpers and fighters. This very ability influenced the intention of the rich people who liked wild fight games to make a fighter out of that dog. During these fights only the strongest representatives of the breed survived.
