This is a new breed, and it appeared due to the efforts by John D. Johnson of Summerville. After the WW II, he returned to the USA to find almost nothing left of the stock, but he managed to piece together the genetic mosaic of the breed. He created a dog, which bore a very close resemblance to its predecessors, who used to fight raging bulls. This dog is more agile and enduring than its English counterpart, and it is known to be a good watchdog, hunter, tracker and companion.
