This dog was created in 1924 by crossing of Mastiffs with Bulldogs. Both breeds were tried against poachers and intruders, but Mastiffs turned out to be a little too clumsy, and Bulldogs were excessively ferocious, and they often killed poachers or tore them within an inch of their lives.

The new breed happened to possess great stamina, substantial tracking and watching aptitudes and relatively easy-going temperament. Such a dog was much more convenient as a guardian.
