In the 19th century, these dogs were originally bred for stability and strength. These protective and friendly canines served as guardians, personal protectors and playing companions for children. The first breed club appeared in 1896 in Germany to pursue the looks and qualities of this breed. The AKC recognized this breed in 1904. The breed standard changed several times since the time of the breed foundation, but the modern breed is only slightly different from the original. These dogs are medium-sized, shorthair, with tight-fitting coat. This breed is playful and high-spirited. View a boxer pic, study the history of the dog, and learn how to choose puppies.
