In appearance, these dogs are muscular, short-coated and square-headed; their skin is tight and the tail is usually docked. Ears of these dogs are usually cropped, but more and more owners prefer natural look for their pets. The only acceptable body color for this breed is fawn, and the only acceptable pattern is brindle. White markings on the muzzle, chest, belly, feet, neck, and inner legs are permitted, if they cover no more then one-third of the body.
