Boxer maryland rescue can ofer dogs that have been abandoned to rescues by their former owners.
This breed developed from several mastiff-type breeds: the Bullenbeiszer and the Barenbeiszer. These creatures were praised for their strength, protective instinct and courage; they were used in bull baiting, fighting, cattle herding and guarding, hunting big game and pulling carts. Due to its intelligence, the breed was very popular in circuses and theaters. The breed is of German origin, but it has an English name. Breeding of these animals was indiscriminate up to the 20th century when the studbook and breed standard appeared.

To keep a pet of this breed, one should be energetic, strong-willed, and dominative. Experience in training is also desirable, because this breed is not recommended as a first-time pet. In the wrong hands, these dogs often become disobedient and cause trouble. Uncontrollable animals are often abandoned to shelters or volunteer organizations. Too aggressive pets cannot find new owners and should be euthanized. Other reasons for abandoning the animal are poor health or age. The majority of pets are abandoned through no fault of their own, but because their owners were not ready for responsible ownership.
