These are strong and well-built hounds that carry themselves with an impression of determination and strength; their gait is one of ease and grace. They are about 12-16 inches high and weigh 14-18 pounds. Though they are small they are good jumpers.

The hounds have intelligent eyes that are quite prominent and bulging. These animals are divided into three classes according to their weight: lightweight is under 6.8kg, middleweight is over 6.8kg and under 9.1kg and heavyweight is between 9.1-11.5kg.
