The name of this species might have originated from its short tail, which is 6 or 7 inches long. The end of the cat’s tail is always black, tipped with white. It distinguishes this animal from its northern cousin, the Canadian Lynx, whose tail is tipped solid black.

These cute animals have long legs and large paws. They weigh 15 to 20 pounds on the average. This species has binocular vision, which enables these animals to focus on swiftly running prey.
