A pure bred austrailian blue heeler is often bred by breeders, or a kennel, as a cattle herding dog and not a pet.
These dogs belong to the working group of hounds that are a tough and hard working group with tremendous endurance, allowing them to cover immense distances. Medium in size, they are a one-person dog and rather aloof with strangers though are good with family members.

As far as their attitude to their owners they are extremely loyal, gentle, alert, and are very receptive to training. Born all white, their coat coloring develops a few weeks after birth. These dogs are 17-20 inches (43-51cm); the bitches are naturally smaller: 17-19 inches (43-48cm). They weigh about 32-35 pounds (15-16kg): the bitches 30-35 pounds (14-16kg).
