In sites where black bear food is easily available, babies are more frequently seen, which allows to make a good photo gallery. This species is omnivorous and highly adaptable in their habits. In early spring they depend on the carrion of winter-killed animals; later on they rob eggs from waterfowl, catch fish, dig up roots and tubers. In early summer they forage on grasses and sedges. In later summer the diet consists of berries, fruits, acorns and nuts, which allow to congregate much energy for winter hibernation.
