The himalayan black bear is greatly in need of conservation due to a high babies mortality rate and extensive hunting. This species occurs throughout Myanmar and is most populous in the mountainous country and jungle. It is nocturnal or crepuscular and spends daytime in rock caves or tree hollows. In the summer they live largely on wild fruit and berries and raid orchards for pears, apricots and nuts.
