It is a pure carnivore that feeds on big game, such as deer, antelope, young elephant, buffalo, and sometimes raids cattle. There have been reports about attacks against humans, but these felines rarely undertake them. Sick, wounded or ill animals that cannot hunt properly are likely to perpetrate an attack against a human. Nursing mothers are very aggressive if they see a threat to the young. This species inhabits a great variety of habitats from rain forest to deserts of India, Bhutan, Burma, and Bangladesh.
