The home to this species is Asia; they can be seen in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Burma. The preferred habitats of these large predators are dense tropical forests, high altitude forests, mangrove swamps, savannahs, lush grasslands, rocky countries. They are nocturnal animals and prefer to hunt at dusk or at dawn. They rarely climb trees, but are renowned swimmers, which singles them out from the feline world in a way. Cubs become independent hunters at the age of 1.5 years, and reach full maturity by 3-4 years of age.

Tiger River Bengal -
photo, rescue
These animals choose territories where they can hunt big game, such as buffalo, deer, pig, antelope and others. These predators avoid human settlements, but if their natural food is scarce, they may raid domestic stock and even become man-eaters. There are numerous stories about evils perpetrated by man-eaters. In fact, these animals rarely undertake attacks against humans, although there has been an increase in such accidents over the last several years due to habitat destruction and depopulation.
