Mature males reach the weight of 200-230 kg and the length of 3 meters at the age of 2-3 years. Their tail is about 0.9 meters long. The usual coat color of the species is orange-brown with black stripes; the belly is white with black stripes. These animals can swim very well, being one of the two felines that like water. They prefer not to climb places, although they are capable of doing so. Males maintain home ranges occupying 20 to 200 square miles; females also have home ranges, but they are much smaller than males’.

Bengal Picture Royal Tiger -
cattery, breeders
The stripes are not only on the coat, but also on the skin. No two animals are the same; every one has its own pattern of stripes. White, black, red, albino and stripeless variations are also possible, but extremely rare. There are so called chinchilla species featuring white coat, dark strips and blue eyes. Some chinchillas may have green or yellow eyes. Most interesting, this variety only occurs in this particular species and can be produced by two orange species carrying a double recessive allele defining the white color.
