They are patient enough to spend many hours tracking their prey and attack immediately once the prey comes within the striking range. They kill a prey by jumping onto its back and biting on its neck.

Adult animals are able to eat up to 90 lbs of meat in one feeding and then go without food for several days. These animals are highly territorial and travel alone; they mark the boundaries of their home ranges with urine, dropping and scratches. Males maintain large home ranges, which may cover several those of females. During mating seasons, a male mates with as many females that live within his home range.
