Many other types can be found nowadays only in the zoos. Despite conservation laws and efforts taken by volunteers and conservation specialists, illegal trade is still far from being totally eliminated, and every day several animals are being killed. The population of wild animals continues to decrease, and at the rate we are going, we may lose these unique animals in the 21st century.

There are many reasons why these animals are endangered. Among these reasons are the loss of habitat, deforestation process, the intrusion of people to their habitat to say nothing about the killing of these wonderful animals for the sake of their skin and body parts. As people encroach upon their habitat, the number of accidental encounters and attacks on livestock increases and the tension between the felines and humans grows day by day. Separation cripples their mentality and results in unpredictable behavior, which in turn results in more animals being wasted.
