Today, there are about 2500 adult animals of this breed in the world. This subspecies is the most numerous; three subspecies have already become extinct. There is a continuing decline in the population of these beautiful animals because of habitat loss and poaching. In the beginning of the 20th century, there were 8 species in the world; now there are only five of them. The Bali, Caspian and Javan species became extinct in the first half of the 20th century.

Bengal Endangered Tiger -
picture, breeder
About 500-600 adult animals live in captivity; they breed well and produce up to 6 cubs in a litter, but the problem is that young animals are very difficult to reintroduce to their native habitat. They have to live in zoos, circuses or with private owners. The number of wild animals continues to decrease at a menacing rate, and they may disappear in several decades. In the beginning of the 20th century, there were 100,000 wild animals in the world, while now there are less than 5,000 species left in the wild.
