Pantera Tigris inhabits tropical forests, savannahs, swamps and rocky terrain of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Burma. They are pure carnivorous and feed on big prey, such as buffalo, deer, pig, antelope, and cattle. Only one of 10 or 20 attacks is successful. For this reason, they may have to stay without food for several days, and only the strongest and most agile species survive in the wild. Wild species live about 15 years, and captive species may live more than 20 years.

The reproductive level of these creatures is very low. They become sexually mature at the age of 3-4 years and females give birth to only 2-4 cubs in every two years. Usually, one or two cubs die at the early age. Habitat destruction and poaching reduces the numbers of these animals in the wild. It has been estimated, that at least one species falls a victim to poachers every day in India. Their body parts are very valuable on the black market, because they are used in Asian folk medicine. Massed killing of these animals coupled with deforestation has put their population on the brink of disappearance, and at the rate we are going, we may lose these animals in the first half of the 21st century.
