Bengal Tiger Info
Bengal tiger info is available at a rescue, so are photos.
The population of this species is estimated today at about 3000 individuals; their numbers continuously decrease due to habitat destruction and poaching. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were about 40,000 of these animals, but hunting for sport and for body parts that are valued by Asian medicine made the species endangered. Wildlife departments are still unfit to resist the onslaught of poachers, who actions are sometimes better organized than those of rangers. Statistically, one or two animals get killed every day, and their numbers continue to decline. Captive animals are less accustomed to wild life and face serious difficulties when introduced to their natural habitats after years of life in captivity.

Bengal Tiger Info -
rescue, photos
Today, separate populations of these animals are isolated; growing human settlements, roads and agriculture lands destruct their natural habitat and drive them further into jungle. About 500 animals of this species are kept in captivity in zoos and private ownership. The planet may lose these unique creatures by the middle of the 21st century unless we manage to change the situation in the foreseeable future. There were 8 subspecies at the beginning of the 20th century, and three of them are already gone. Those are the Bali, Javan and Caspian subspecies.
