Bengal Cattery
A bengal cattery will offer photos of their cats.
There are eight species of this animal that are known but there are only five that are left now, they are Bengal, Indochinese, Siberian, South China and Sumatran. There were about 100000 representatives of these animals a century ago and now there are about 5000 that are left. The Bali, Javan and Caspian species disappeared in the first half of the 20th century; so will the five remaining species unless we stop illegal trade in their body parts and destruction of their natural habitat. It has been estimated that at the rate the killing is going, we may lose this wonderful creature by the 2050s.

Though they are endangered animals and it is prohibited to hunt for their coat and parts of their body that are used in traditional Chinese medicine they are still killed and sold. In traditional Chinese medicine it is thought that the bones of these animals can cure all diseases. One killed animal brings enough money to a person for several years to come; therefore, with the temptation so huge, it will be difficult to counteract the onslaught of poachers or battle corrupt officials. Unfortunately, wildlife departments suffer a want of qualified staff and a severe underbudgeting, which hampers their work very much. A bengal cattery will offer photos of their cats.
