HBHR is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to saving the needy dogs of this breed. The organization is actually a small group of volunteers who foster dogs in their homes and take care of them till the time when new suitable homes are found for them. Most of their animals come from the situations when they were scheduled for euthanasia. The major goal of the organization is finding homes with families who want to continue their mission of giving the homeless dogs a second chance for a quality life. Every adopted has to pay a small donation fee for a dog. Owners who surrender their dogs usually do it for free.

Volunteers provide the dogs with necessary medical care, and spay or neuter them. Dogs with behavior problems often need rehabilitation and training. All surrendered dogs are spayed or neutered, and health and temperament tested. They can be used as pets only, but not for breeding or showing.
