The first records of this breed appeared as long ago as 400 BC. The precise origin of the breed in uncertain, but it’s known that similar dogs existed in Greece and in England. This small hound was used to hunt the rabbit and hare. The dogs’ miniature size and tracking ability allowed hunters to follow them on foot. That’s why this breed was very attractive for women who could participate in hunting. The peak of the breed’s popularity was in the 14th and 15th centuries.
