Many of the dogs that need new owners are relinquished by their owners that can no longer take care of them. After evaluating health, personality, and temperament, volunteers look for a suitable home and a loving owner for the dog. Basenji rescues rarely have a puppy for adoption; rescues usually have adult dogs.
