Pictures Gallery Submission Guidelines
Requirements:
- If you would like to submit pictures to any of the Picture
Galleries, just complete the Submission
Form after reviewing these guidelines.
- All pictures must be
submitted through this form. We cannot accept pictures that are sent
by email or regular mail.
Adding your pet to the Picture Galleries:
- We are happy
to review your pet pictures for inclusion in the following galleries:
birds, cats, dogs, exotics, farm animals, horses, reptiles, and small
animals.
- Added bonus! Any pictures accepted into a Gotpetsonline Picture Gallery will
also appear in the
corresponding animal Picture Gallery!
Size of pictures:
- The actual animal portion of pictures
should be a minimum of 5" x 7", but
an 8" x 10", or larger size, is preferred. However, please do not
touch-up, modify, re-size, or change the picture
in any way by any software program
such as Photoshop.
- If measured in pixels,
1600 x 1200 pixels or more is
preferred.
- If measured by file size, 800 KB or larger is preferred, although
occasionally a smaller size is accepted; however, 1,500 KB to 3,000 KB
is preferred. The largest acceptable file size is 3,000 KB.
- The resolution of pictures should be a minimum of 72 dpi;
however, 150 dpi or 300 dpi is
preferred.
- The reason for this minimal size limit is because we need pictures
that are large enough for us to optimize and resize for the gallery without
decreasing the quality. We are unable to do this with most small pictures.
It is also best not to manipulate pictures with any software program
prior to submission to our gallery.
- The size of a picture is determined by many factors.
If scanned, the size of the picture can be controlled by the scan settings
and is also a result of the initial print size. If the picture is
taken by a digital
camera, the size and resolution can be controlled by the camera
settings in most cases.
Credit for your pictures (advertising not permitted):
- If we are able to use your pictures, we
will give you credit as owner under your enlarged
pictures (not thumbnails).
- The owner name must be a person. The owner cannot
be a kennel name, business name, e-mail address, or website address
because this would cause a conflict of interest with our classified Ads
section.
- The pet's nickname must be the short common version of the pet's name and
not a long name that would identify the pet to others for the purpose of
attracting buyers for your pet or your business.
- In order to protect your right to privacy, the e-mail address will
not be displayed under any of the pictures and we will not divulge your
e-mail address to anyone.
Notification of acceptance:
- We will notify you by e-mail
once your pictures are online; otherwise, we will notify you by e-mail
with the reasons why we were unable to use your pictures. Please allow 10
days for your pictures to be reviewed.
- If your picture is not accepted, please send a
better picture that meets the recommendations. A good quality
picture is required for acceptance.
- We will e-mail you as soon as
we have reviewed your pictures.
Ownership:
- By submitting pictures to us for our Picture Galleries,
you hereby grant Gotpetsonline a perpetual, universal, nonexclusive
right to copy, display, modify, alter, transmit, sell, and distribute any
pictures provided by you.
- You agree that you are the owner of all
pictures submitted by you to Gotpetsonline and you represent and
guarantee to Gotpetsonline, as a condition of submitting pictures,
that you are the legal owner of the copyright to all pictures you
submit to Gotpetsonline or that you have permission from the copyright
owner to submit the pictures to Gotpetsonline.
Quality:
- Only high quality color pictures are accepted. We normally do not accept a black and white
picture.
- Good pictures
show the breed as accurately as possible.
- The pictures should be
close-ups, preferably showing all of the animal at an attractive
angle.
- The pictures should be nice, clean, sharp images.
- We do not accept
pictures of artistic representations such as drawings,
sculptures, paintings,
or any picture that has been modified in any way by a software program.
- All pictures must be actual pictures of your pet with the
original background and cannot be framed in any way.
Quantity:
- Please send your best picture of each pet. Rarely will we accept
more than one picture of the same pet.
- However, you are encouraged to send
one picture of each of your pets.
- There is no limit on the number of pictures
that may be accepted of the same breed or from the same owner, provided
that each one is a different individual pet.
- There is a limit of 5 pictures per user that may be in the review process at one time.
Best pictures:
- Do not show red eyes.
- Are not taken from behind a fence. Avoid obstructions, such as toys, that obscure a
good picture of your pet.
- Do not include humans, although some with kids are good. Avoid showing hands and arms around pet.
- Are not protected by copyright by a professional photographer
unless you have received written permission for us to use the pictures.
- Are not touched-up, modified, or changed in any way
by any software program such as Photoshop.
- Have not been previously optimized for the web which causes
a significant loss of detail which is required for acceptance in the gallery.
- Do not have text superimposed on the picture.
- Do not have multiple breeds in the picture.
Formats that are acceptable:
- JPG files only.
- We cannot accept GIF or TIF files.
Scanning of pictures:
- If you are scanning pictures for submission, the best scans
are ones of good quality pictures resulting in a
rather dull copy without a lot of contrast.
- Do not try to make the whites too white and the blacks too black.
- Scan at a high resolution such as a 5" x 7" at 300-400 dpi.
Primary reasons for rejection of submitted pictures:
- Please do not manipulate, change, enlarge, modify, or attempt to optimize
pictures with any software program such as Photoshop prior to submission
to our gallery. This is the most common reason why we are unable to
use pictures.
- When pictures are over-corrected and worked-over, they are beyond
repair. Once any filters of contrast, color and sharpening are applied,
there is no "un-doing" of these filters and there is usually nothing
we can do to reverse them.
- Poor lighting with too much contrast can disqualify a picture. It is difficult to
photograph a black pet on a lightly colored background, or a white pet on a dark background.
