The schipperke dogs are considered a water dog. This breed appeared in Flanders and was used on ships to control rats and mice and guard barges. In the 19th century these dogs became popular pets for farmers and spread throughout the world. These dogs are good for apartment life, as they are rather small and moderately active indoors.
