Beginning with the year 1209 the dogs were used in the dogfight games. It is obvious that the nobility and royalty who were interested in the game bating started the breeding of the fight dog. They say it was created by crossbreeding of the old Mastiff and a local terrier that was more active and light.

But notwithstanding the popularity of that sport it was prohibited in 1835 and the breed became almost extinct. Thanks to some faithful and dedicated breeders there were some representatives of the breed left and continued to breed.
