Bald eagles prefer to live near lakes, rivers, marshes, and seacoasts. Fish eaters, Bald Eagles can catch fish 6-12 inches under the surface. There are several methods these birds use to catch prey, for example, rushing down from a perch and wading from shore into the water and grabbing fish with the powerful bill or talons. These birds have to migrate in winter when water sources freeze over. Bald Eagles have a huge wingspan, and their soaring is spectacular. They fly on flat, stiff wings that are held horizontally and make only slight movements with the tips of the wings.
